Tunnels apparently linking prominent places such as country houses, castles and other prominent buildings are a common theme in folklore across Somerset.
Maybe it is a secret passageway installed by the lord of the manor so he could canoodle with his lover without being spotted, or the secret network used by smugglers so they could move ill-gotten wares around the town without being spotted by law enforcement.
